This part of the documentation will focus on very generic features that are used throughout the whole theme.

What is covered by our support?

Our support only covers bug fixes and assistance on existing features. Feel free to send us an email about new features you'd like to have in the theme, but we won't implement them for you.

Where can I customize my settings?

To customize your theme, log in into your Vend dashboard. On the left sidebar, click on "Design", then "Themes". Finally, click on the theme's name.

Once you have opened the settings, you will be able to see an option called "Edit HTML/CSS" at the top right. We want to warn you about this option: it gives you a complete access to the theme code source. While this offers you a lot of flexibility, this also requires a deep knowledge of both HTML and CSS. If you are not familiar with those technologies, we highly recommend you not to enter into this section. You may break entirely the theme, and we cannot be held responsible for any changes you do in this section.

How can I localize the theme in my own language?

Vend does not support any localization system yet. However, you can translate the theme sentences by modifying a file. Do to this, follow those steps:

  • Open the Theme Settings.
  • On the top right, you'll see a link called "Edit HTML/CSS". Click on it.
  • You will be redirected to a new page. On the left, you'll find a lot of files, organized by folders. Locate the file called "en.default.json", in the "Locales" folder. Click on it.
  • The content of the file will appear on the right. As you can see, it is organized by sections. Each sentence is localized by its keyword. What you need to change is the right part (the ones that look like actual sentences).
  • Save!

How can I use fonts from Google Font?

By default, Kagami allows you to customize the font you are using in various parts of your shop (main content font, heading font, slider font...).

To make it easier and reduce the risk of breaking the theme, we now restrict the choice to a pre-defined fonts that we have chosen ourself and that look good for this specific store.

What are breadcrumbs and how can I disable it?

Breadcrumbs are a nice navigational tool that you can find in many e-commerce shops. This helps your customers to know where they are in your website.

You can disable breadcrumbs completely in the "Navigation" > "Breadcrumbs" section of your theme settings. Please note that breadcrumbs are never displayed on mobile to save some space.

What if I need very specific customization?

While we made our best to make Kagami as customizable as possible, there are times where you have highly specific needs. As of today, you'll need to hire an external developer. You may be interested in contacting Vend team directly.

How can I add a newsletter section at the bottom of all my pages

Kagami allows you to add a newsletter module at the bottom of each page. This can be used to engage your visitors.

To enable this feature, follow those steps:

  1. In your Theme Settings, open the "Newsletter" section.
  2. Fill the MailChimp/CampaignMonitor form action.
  3. Check the "Display the newsletter at the bottom of all pages" option.
  4. Save!

How can I activate and configure the promotional popup?

The promotional popup (also called "marketing popup") is a special popup that will automatically appears when your visitors will come to your store.

To configure the content and the title of it, you must first create a Vend page. Then, in your Theme Settings, open the "Popup" section, click on "Enable" and for the "Page for content" setting, enter the name of the page you have newly created.

On Kagami, the marketing popup is highly configurable. You can, for instance, decide to only show the marketing popup on home page and/or to visitors only, as well as configuring the number of days before the promotional popup will appear again for your users.

While the theme allows it, we highly discourage you to set the "Number of days before the popup reappears to the user" to 0. This means that it will appear every time. This can be a big annoyance for your users.

How can I add a newsletter field in promotional popup?

If you want, you can have a small field that allows your user to enter their email address to be registered in your newsletter to appear in your promotional popup.

To do that, just enable the promotional popup (see previous section). Then, in your Theme Settings, open the "Newsletter" main section, enter your MailChimp or Campaign Monitor form action and check the option "Display in marketing popup".

Once done, the "email" field will automatically appear in your marketing popup!

Kagami theme comes with an awesome auto-completion feature for search. This means that as soon as the user start typing a few letters, suggestions start to show up, without the need for your user to go to the Search page.

What is the Quick Shop feature?

Kagami comes with a "Quick Shop" feature. This feature allows your user to buy a product without having to entering into the product page. It is a limited presentation of your product. This can be useful for returning users that want to buy as fast as possible.

This feature is automatically disabled on mobile and tablets, because it looks too small on such screen to actually be useful. On such devices, the user is redirected to the more complete product page directly.

How can I add a map into my contact page?

You can display a beautiful map into your contact page, without having to code a single line of code. To do so, follow those instructions:

  1. In your Theme Settings, open the "Contact page" section.
  2. In the "Map" sub-section, enable the option, and properly fill each fields. Be sure to respect the format indicated for each field!
  3. Save!

Then, we'll need to add the link to your contact page in the main navigation:

  1. Open the "Navigation" section in your Vend admin.
  2. Open the navigation list called "Main Menu" (this one should be created by default by Vend).
  3. Check if this list contains a link to your contact page. If that's not the case, click on the "Add a link" button. As link title, type "Contact", and in the dropdown just below, select "Contact Us page".
  4. Save the navigation list!
  5. You can actually create such a link in the footer too, by following the same steps but for the navigation list that you have linked to your footer as explained here.

What does Kagami mean?

Kagami is a Japanese word that means "mirror". This theme aims to be exactly that: the perfect mirror for your products.
